having debuted with a fine ep by job sifre, artificial dance has returned to the source for release number two. the 12inch pays tribute to one of the most influential figures of original diy electronic music scene of holland, hanjo erkamp. during the first half of the 1980s, erkamp had a hand in some of the most experimental and forward-thinking releases on the now legendary cassette label, trumpett. famously, he was a member of two of the label�s key bands industrial outfit doxa sinistra and new wave combo ende shneafliet but during the period he also recorded a swathe of solo tracks as c.stein, most of which only saw the light of day decades later. la bombe plastique, a thrillingly spacey and futurist cut rich in proto-techno rhythms, intergalactic electronic motifs and drowsy choral vocals. for this timely reissue, the superb original version comes accompanied by a fresh re-edit created primarily for dj use.

lion and the mean ecstasy of �you�ve got a woman�, the b-side to their sole release comprise a rare burst of psychedelic western soul from two names best known for dutch progressive rock and new wave. drummer peter de leeuwe, departing from the symphonic leanings of dutch prog-fixtures ekseption, penned it in 1975, layering syncopated explosions of hand-claps, vibraslap and slick drumwork with neutron-star density, with super-producer hans van hemert nearly bursting glenn robles vocals through the fore. the shoes subtle edit provides exactly that, gently teasing the organ- and requintohinted contours of the track to better suit the treasure within. chicago-based septet whitney have brought some attention to youve got a woman with a recent cover, and the faith with which they recreate much of the original instrumentation proves the extent of lions accomplishment.

surely no other orchestra can claim the dancefloor kudos of these guys - the salsoul orchestra. theyve literally played on, shaped, crafted and executed numerous classics since their inception in 1975. as salsoul records in-house band they were quite literally, instrumental, in the personality and sound of one of dance musics most famous and respected labels.

a little over six years ago, let s play house because, in earnest, with a 12-inch called indoor pool. fittingly, the track it revolved around was by runaway, the duo comprised of marcos cabral and jacques renault, and featured remixes by some tight friends of the imprint, beautiful swimmers, slow hands, and soft rocks. we thought it d be fun to celebrate our birthday for once, but not with something too obvious (e.g. a compilation) or too involved (e.g. a warehouse party blowout). what we came up with is this, a 10-inch that reflects a little of the past into the present. appropriately, it includes edits by two of the artists on that debut ep. runaway s is a dusted-off and remixed secret weapon from the act s early days while soft rock s is classic soft rocks, albeit from a more current vintage (it was recorded this year). both absolutely rock. a little twisted, a little tilted, a little tipsy, but, as always, tight and tidy. funny how, since 2009, everything has changed and nothing has changed at all for this label of ours.

reissue of the much sought after hotbath edit series from crazy p. hotbath edits vol.1 kicks off with a rather tasty re-work of a familiar nyc disco record which uses only the beat and vocal of the original with some very tasty musical elements added. backing that up is the equally juicy edit which works that groove and takes it straight to the dancefloor. changing tack for the flip we have a re-work with original elements of the acoustic guitar and the vocals are bolstered with live beats, bass, strings and brass to give a truly uplifting mix. finally look out for the curveball edit of a certain neptunes penned pop hit to round off this killer package!

sterns edits returns after the sell-out success of its debut edition with another two catalogue reworks from ben gomori. this time he turns his attention to burkina faso s much-loved taxi-driver-turned-singer, amadou balaké. balaké ( porcupine in mandinka) is burkina faso s proudest musical export, and in 2013 he recorded his final album before passing away: in conclusion. the record saw him revisit some of his most popular tracks from his remarkable 50-year career, backed by an eight-piece burkinabé band who took the country s traditional sounds and brought them into a contemporary light. gomori retains the essence of the original recordings which were mostly captured in one take and marries them to vigorous afro-house stylings. bar konon mousso (musicien c est pas quelqu un) in which balaké tells of a bar lady being unimpressed by his profession, gets a gentle push towards the modern dancefloor, its wonderful sax lines resplendent. massa kamba is taken for a drive down the more traditional route, with commanding drums bolstering the original grooves and a marvelous triple harmony brass section at its core. balakes freewheeling style suits the hypnotic feel of the edits to a tee. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

trisomie 21 is a post punk band formed in 1981 by phillipe lomprez (vocals, drums) and herv? lomprez (guitar, electronics), two brothers from abscon, in the north of france. they began composing songs at the age of 16 while studying at school. the brothers were influenced by kraftwerk, the residents, yello, p.i.l as well as the films of george a. romero. their music consists of lush soundscapes that do not easily fit into any one category. lyrics are sung in english because in the north of france the duo sought to contradict the trend at the time for everything to be sung in french. musically their mood is melancholic and one can hear traces of joy division, durutti column and the cure.

dark entries is honored to release a 4-track ep by red axes, the prolific production duo of dori sadovnik and niv arzi from tel aviv. the pair were raised on a diet of post-punk, new-wave, and italo-disco at fogged out warehouse and basement parties. their own productions and remixes have appeared on labels such as i?m a clich?, correspondant, and hivern discs. ?nyx tape? features two new compositions backed with two edits from our catalog. first up is the slick electro anthem ?5 min? another collaboration with french-canadian born singer chlo? raunet aka c.a.r. followed by ?nyx tape? featuring charismatic singer-lyricist gina kikoine aka gina x, who reached out after hearing their remix of her classic single ?no gdm? that was a huge anthem on the tel aviv 80s underground scene. the track is an ecstatic dance to the rhythm in the darkness with gina?s ice cold teutonic spoken word taking creative inspiration from the jewish mourners? prayer ? the kaddish. on the b-side ?destination moon? by solid space from 1982 has been given a dancefloor makeover with moody synths and a haunting guitar line reminiscent of an adrian sherwood dub. closing this ep is a hypnotic edit of ?la machine ? r?ver? by french bedroom synth freaks x-ray pop from 1984 slowed down to a 4/4 groove that takes the original to outer space and back. all songs have been mastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the ep is housed in a custom made jacket that features an original collage by eloise leigh representing nyx, the greek goddess of the night. each copy included a postcard with notes and lyrics.
